Researching essential oils

As your guest columnist this issue, I’ll explore the world of essential oils from the perspective of a neophyte. All I knew about essential oils, until recently, is that there are racks of them in health food stores. You’ve probably seen them too - dozens of tiny, brown, sometimes outrageously expensive bottles that contain concentrated herbal oils such as lavender and chamomile. I’ve always assumed people use them for potpourri, and that’s true. But there’s a lot more to know about essential oils. more on aromatherapy

Mmmmmm, not only smells good, but is useful

I don’t watch much television.

I don’t know about you, but have you seen the preponderence of ads concerning the use of medication these days? You can almost guarantee that during your evenings viewing you will be bombarded with ads about different drugs or medication. I have never seen so many people happily sharing the news of their diarrhea and Hemorrhoids. One of the statements that concerns me, is “tell your doctor if you are suffering from A, B, or C” – if they are your doctor, shouldn’t they already know? Of course not, as the world gets smaller, the chances of you still having the same family doctor that you had as a child become increasingly remote. Sometimes, unless you are watching closely, it is difficult to know what the medication actually is, never the less, you are still advised to ask your doctor for them, and let’s face it, if you are forceful enough, they will probably let you have them to shut you up! more on aromatherapy
